Ces animaux ne boivent pas ou peu, les apports d&rsquo;eau dus aux flux spontan\u00e9s couvrant les besoins.<\/p>\n<p>En revanche le milieu int\u00e9rieur des T\u00e9l\u00e9ost\u00e9ens vivant en eau de mer \u00e9tant hypoosmotique par rapport au milieu ext\u00e9rieur, les flux spontan\u00e9s d&rsquo;eau se produisant au niveau des surfaces corporelles perm\u00e9ables sont sortants. Les pertes d&rsquo;eau dues aux flux spontan\u00e9s sont compens\u00e9es par la boisson. Cependant, l&rsquo;eau de mer pr\u00e9sente dans la lumi\u00e8re du tube digestif a une concentration osmotique sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle du milieu int\u00e9rieur. Elles pr\u00e9sentent en outre des replis membranaires basaux associ\u00e9s \u00e0 des mitochondries. Les ent\u00e9rocytes voisins sont reli\u00e9s par des complexes de jonctions apicaux, sous lesquels ils m\u00e9nagent entre eux de vastes espaces.<\/p>\n<p>Une pompe ATPase Na<sup>+<\/sup>\/K<sup>+<\/sup> est pr\u00e9sente dans la membrane plasmique du c\u00f4t\u00e9 basal de la cellule. Elle expulse les ions Na<sup>+<\/sup> hors de la cellule et fait entrer les ions K<sup>+<\/sup>.<br \/>\nElle g\u00e9n\u00e8re ainsi un gradient \u00e9lectrochimique transmembranaire d&rsquo;ions Na<sup>+<\/sup>, appauvrissant le milieu intracellulaire et enrichissant le milieu extracellulaire \u00e0 la base de la cellule et dans les espaces intercellulaires. Les ions K<sup>+<\/sup> retournent pour leur part au milieu extracellulaire par des canaux basaux.<\/p>\n<p>Le gradient d&rsquo;ions Na<sup>+<\/sup> favorise le fonctionnement d&rsquo;un cotransporteur symport Na<sup>+<\/sup>\/K<sup>+<\/sup>\/2Cl<sup>&#8211;<\/sup> pr\u00e9sent dans la membrane plasmique du c\u00f4t\u00e9 apical de la cellule. Il permet l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e dans la cellule des ions Na<sup>+<\/sup>, K<sup>+<\/sup> et Cl<sup>&#8211;<\/sup>.<br \/>\nLes ions Cl<sup>&#8211;<\/sup> comme les ions K<sup>+<\/sup> empruntent des canaux sp\u00e9cifiques, situ\u00e9s \u00e0 la base de la cellule, qui leur permettent de gagner le milieu int\u00e9rieur.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;expulsion active des ions Na<sup>+<\/sup> vers les espaces intercellulaires et la base de l&rsquo;\u00e9pith\u00e9lium et la sortie des ions Cl<sup>&#8211;<\/sup> qui l&rsquo;accompagne conduisent \u00e0 une augmentation de la concentration osmotique locale du milieu int\u00e9rieur.<br \/>\nLorsqu&rsquo;elle devient sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de l&rsquo;eau de mer contenue dans la lumi\u00e8re intestinale, un flux d&rsquo;eau s&rsquo;\u00e9tablit, du milieu ext\u00e9rieur repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par le contenu de la lumi\u00e8re vers le milieu int\u00e9rieur. <\/p>\n<p>L\u2019eau est ainsi absorb\u00e9e par l&rsquo;\u00e9pith\u00e9lium intestinal contre le gradient de concentration osmotique. Le m\u00e9canisme impliqu\u00e9 comporte une pompe ATPase dont le fonctionnement consomme de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie.
