Consommant du dioxyg\u00e8ne et produisant du dioxyde de carbone, elle induit \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle de l\u2019organisme des \u00e9changes gazeux respiratoires. <\/p>\n<p>En relation avec leur milieu de vie, les Euarthropodes poss\u00e8dent des appareils respiratoires diff\u00e9rents. Les branchies, \u00e9vaginations t\u00e9gumentaires, sont rencontr\u00e9es chez les esp\u00e8ces  aquatiques et les trach\u00e9es et poumons, invaginations t\u00e9gumentaires chez les esp\u00e8ces a\u00e9riennes.<\/p>\n<p>Les premi\u00e8res sont soutenues par l&rsquo;eau et prot\u00e9g\u00e9es par des expansions t\u00e9gumentaires, les deuxi\u00e8mes et troisi\u00e8mes sont soutenus par des \u00e9paississements de cuticule et prot\u00e9g\u00e9s de la dessiccation par la fermeture des stigmates.<\/p>\n<p>Les modalit\u00e9s de la ventilation varient \u00e9galement avec le milieu de vie : elle est unidirectionnelle en milieu aquatique et bidirectionnelle en milieu a\u00e9rien.<\/p>\n<p>Les types d&rsquo;appareil respiratoire et les modalit\u00e9s de la ventilation sont ainsi d\u00e9pendants des milieux de vie et de leurs caract\u00e9ristiques physiques et chimiques.<\/p>\n<p>Pour autant, le m\u00e9canisme d&rsquo;\u00e9change des gaz respiratoires est toujours une diffusion simple, \u00e0 travers les membranes et les cytoplasmes des cellules. Les \u00e9changeurs pr\u00e9sentent des adaptations \u00e0 la diffusion, avec une grande surface, une faible \u00e9paisseur et des convections des milieux ext\u00e9rieur et int\u00e9rieur maintenant les gradients des pressions partielles.<\/p>\n<p>Quelques Araign\u00e9es poss\u00e8dent un appareil respiratoire mixte, form\u00e9 de poumons et de trach\u00e9es, tous deux irrigu\u00e9s par l&rsquo;h\u00e9molymphe avec laquelle les \u00e9changes gazeux sont r\u00e9alis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Divers Hexapodes ont un cycle de vie comportant des phases aquatique, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement larvaire ou juv\u00e9nile, et a\u00e9rienne, le plus souvent adulte. Ce sont par exemple les Eph\u00e9m\u00e8res et les Odonates. Les individus aquatiques poss\u00e8dent dans ces cas un appareil respiratoire trach\u00e9en mais les stigmates sont clos. Les trach\u00e9es sont d\u00e9ploy\u00e9es dans des expansions t\u00e9gumentaires temporaires appel\u00e9es trach\u00e9obranchies, \u00e0 travers lesquelles le dioxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans l&rsquo;eau diffuse avant de p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans les ramifications trach\u00e9ennes.
